One Man’s Near Death Experience with the Flu Shot

Infectious Polyneuritic Neualgia Nuritis

Date of Flu Vaccine Inoculation: 1 week prior to Thanksgiving 1993
 
 
 
1993 Sunday after Thanksgiving
Monday

1)

  Pains in legs — couldn’t sleep

2)

  Went to emergency room at Memorial Hospital- needed help to walk at 6:00 AM

3)

  At 3:00 PM couldn’t walk out of the emergency room

4)

  Dr. called Neurologist on call

5)

  Dr. Storey diagnosed condition over the phone and had me admitted to the hospital

6)

  Dr. Storey gave me a Spinal Tap and tests for nerve conduction -  both confirmed my diagnosis
Tuesday & Wednesday

7)

  Admitted to a regular room for 2 days
Thursday - Monday

8)

  Lost complete control of body from waist down and became paralyzed in face and mouth. I was put into the ICU unit

9)

  Dr’s. believed that paralysis would spread to neck and I would lose breathing ability. The respiratory therapists tested me every hour to see if I could Still breathe.

10)

  4 bottle of I G E were given to me intravenously

11)

  Dr. specializing In "Blood Foresis" called in (Dr. Taft) from St. Peters. He did this procedure 3 or 4 times.

12)

  Developed "extreme pain" in legs and back and was put on IV pump pain killer for 2 days — My blood pressure reached dangerous levels - 200/ 120 and a Cardiologist was brought in (Dr. Fabregas) - He personally medicated me - 24 hours (overnight) for 2 days to bring my pressure down
Tuesday & Wednesday

13)

  Pain finally subsided and pressure normalized and I was transferred to a regular room Thursday

14)

  Transferred to St. Peter’s Hospital - Physical Therapy - 3rd Floor
Stayed in St. Peters until January 2, 1994
  Left St. Peters with a "walker" and spent next three months in "outpatient therapy"
  Lost 40 pounds and had permanent rise in my "blood pressure" readings.
