ABOUT THE ORGANIZER OF WELLNESS JOURNEY ’05 – KEN W. GOEWEY

Wellness Journey ’05 – A Forum is the innovative idea of Ken W. Goewey, perhaps best known in the Capital Region as the founder of Ken Goewey Dodge with the oft heard commercials Ken Goewey – What A Guy.
As an advocate of integrative health therapies, Wellness Journey ’05 is the first regional wellness Forum Mr. Goewey has organized.  The Forum will take place on Oct. 15 at Siena College in Loudonville.
Mr. Goewey’s interest in alternative medicine started when his brother, Stephen (a medical Doctor), was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1989.  Stephen died three years later.  In addition, Mr. Goewey’s wife, Jerrie-Ann, suffers from emphysema, small air ways disease, and diabetes. This adds to his understanding of the effect of chronic illness on families.

The Forum Mr. Goewey has organized has a three-fold purpose:

        • To educate chronically ill to their options (those taking more than asprin) .
        • To educate and support the caregivers of the chronically ill.
        • To educate medical practitioners and the general public to integrate workable options beyond traditional medicine.
Mr. Goewey’s goal is to establish Wellness Journey ’05 as an annual educational model on wellness that will serve both individuals and groups in a fun setting.
Born in Albany, Mr. Goewey attended Siena College and received his associate’s degree from SUNY Farmingdale.  He served in the U.S. Army.  In 1960, he and his parents established Ken Goewey Dodge.
He and his wife have served as regional directors and on the National Board of Marriage Encounter.  They also were Family Life Directors for the 14-county Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany where they recruited, trained and maintained 500 volunteers.  Mr. Goewey was on the National Catholic Family Life Ministers conference committee for five years.
Mr. Goewey, 68, owns Alternative Cars and Trucks Inc. in Wynantskill that he began after selling Ken Goewey Dodge to his son, Bryan, in 1991.  Mr. Goewey is an event coordinator, booking events at automobile racetracks in New York, Pennsylvania and New England.  Mr. Goewey is developing an online business selling health books.
A resident of Wynantskill, N.Y., Mr. And Mrs. Goewey are the parents of four children: K.C., Bryan, Tim and Kate.
